RAUTAHAT, Feb 22: Police have detained 23 people, including Ward Chairperson Awadhbihari Sah and former chair and Janamat Party district chief Sheikh Jamsed, following clashes between two communities in Gaur, the district headquarters of Rautahat.

The dispute erupted last Thursday in Subgadha during a wedding DJ event, escalating into violence.

After tensions persisted, the District Administration imposed a curfew on Saturday afternoon and deployed the Nepali Army. Security forces are now monitoring not only Gaur but the entire Madhesh region ahead of the elections.

Reports indicate the clashes were fueled by provocative slogans: Hindus chanting “Jai Shri Ram” and Muslims responding with “Nara-e-Takbeer,” creating unrest since Thursday night.

Though the curfew has calmed Gaur, roads and schools remain closed, residents are staying indoors, and election candidates are unable to campaign.
