KATHMANDU, Feb 18: Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) Chairman Rabi Lamichhane has said politicians who fail to fulfil their election promises should face consequences.
Addressing a “Parivartan Udghosh Sabha” in Dhangadhi on Wednesday, Lamichhane said the longstanding practice in which voters cast ballots, leaders make commitments and the public ultimately bears the cost of unfulfilled pledges must end. “People vote, leaders make promises, and yet it is the voters who are punished when those promises go unmet. This cannot continue,” he said.

Lamichhane also called for an end to what he described as the prolonged politicisation of public concerns, including issues affecting Sudurpaschim Province, by repeatedly presenting them as unresolved demands. He criticised established political parties for turning local problems into electoral agendas and using them to build vote banks over the years.
Referring to the upcoming vote on February 21, he said the day should not merely be about casting ballots but about “writing history.” He argued that the era of repeatedly listing citizens’ fundamental rights as campaign promises in election manifestos must come to an end.
Stressing the need for political stability, Lamichhane said his party has called for a stable five-year government, claiming that, for the first time in Nepal’s political history, a party has entered into a “contract” with the people.
Taking aim at traditional parties, he added that one “shutter” would soon close—either theirs or his party’s. “One of them will shut. The shutters of misgovernance, disorder, unemployment and illiteracy must be brought down,” he said.
