KATHMANDU, May 27: CPN-UML lawmaker Ain Mahar has expressed strong dissatisfaction over the internal design of the new Parliament building being constructed in Singha Durbar, saying the assembly hall does not reflect the dignity of Parliament.
Speaking during the special hour of the House of Representatives on Wednesday, Mahar welcomed the government’s plan to present the upcoming budget from the new building but questioned the seating and table arrangements inside the hall.

Referring to a recent inspection video involving Speaker DP Aryal, he said the Speaker had also raised concerns about the setup. “The Speaker was seen saying during the inspection that this and that were not right. I fully respect and support that concern,” Mahar said. “This is the House of Representatives hall. MPs are not here to watch movies.”
He further criticised the design of the hall, saying the seats resemble those in a cinema hall and the tables look like those used in school classrooms. “The hall does not look like a parliamentary chamber. It feels like a cinema hall has been designed instead,” he said, urging the government to ensure the building reflects the dignity of Parliament.
The remarks come as the government prepares to present the upcoming budget from the new Parliament building on May 29.
