GULMI, Feb 18: Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) Managing Director (MD) Hitrendra Dev Shakya has conducted a field inspection of the Burtibang–Paudi Amarai–Tamghas–Sandhikharka–Gorusinge 132 kV transmission line project, including its substations, after the completion of construction and commencement of operations.

Shakya inspected the 46 MVA substations at Tamghas (Unaichaur, Resunga Municipality–7, Gulmi), Paudi Amarai (Musikot Municipality), and Burtibang (Khaltubot, Dhorpatan Municipality–2, Baglung). Following further technical inspections in his presence, the 132 kV circuit from the Tamghas substation to the Burtibang substation was charged, the NEA said.

Shakya was accompanied by officials including Transmission Directorate Chief Rajan Dhakal, High Voltage Grid Development Department Director Kedar Raj Silwal, and Medium Voltage Grid Development Department Director Achyut Babu Ghimire. Gulmi Chief District Officer Badri Nath Gaire was also present during the Tamghas inspection.

After the inspection, Shakya said the project is a priority for strengthening a reliable, high-quality and dependable power supply. “Earlier, when electricity was supplied through a 33 kV line, there were outages 10–15 times a day. After charging the 132 kV line, supply has become regular and voltage has improved,” he said.

He expressed confidence that the upgraded infrastructure will support industries and businesses with reliable electricity, helping boost the local economy and create jobs. Shakya also noted that improved power supply could help curb migration from hills to the plains and abroad.

The NEA said successful technical testing over two days means regular power flow will now continue. Project Chief Manoj Prasad Chaudhary stated that once fully operational, the project—with five substations from Motipur, Kapilvastu, to Burtibang, Baglung—will significantly improve the reliability and quality of electricity in Gulmi and Baglung.

Built at a cost of around Rs 4.76 billion, the substation and transmission line are expected to enhance power services across Kapilvastu, Gulmi, Arghakhanchi and Baglung, while reducing voltage drops, overloads and frequent outages in the hill districts.
