KATHMANDU, May 18: Lawmakers of the Shram Sanskriti Party staged a protest in the House of Representatives (HoR) on Monday, displaying placards during the parliamentary session.
As soon as the meeting began, lawmakers from the party, including Chairperson Harka Raj Rai (Sampang), stood up from their seats and moved toward the Speaker’s podium while holding placards, prompting parliamentary security personnel to intervene and stop them.

Speaker Dol Prasad Aryal expressed concern over the protest, stating that displaying placards inside the House and staging demonstrations in such a manner was against parliamentary norms and decorum. He directed lawmakers not to repeat such actions in the future.
The party had earlier boycotted the House meeting on May 14 after Prime Minister Balendra Shah did not appear to respond to questions raised during the discussion on the government’s policy and programmes.
Today’s session included changes in members of the Business Advisory Committee, presentation of the report of the House Rules Drafting Committee, and discussion on the principles and priorities of the Appropriation Bill for the upcoming fiscal year 2026/27.
