KATHMANDU, July 24: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has arrested an accounts officer of Ward No. 30 of the Kathmandu Metropolitan City on charges of accepting a bribe.
The CIAA arrested Uddhab Bhattarai, the ward’s accounts officer, with Rs 21,000 in alleged bribe money from the ward office.
Ward Chairman and Secretary arrested with Rs 70,000 Bribe
According to CIAA Spokesperson Suresh Neupane, the arrest followed a complaint alleging that Bhattarai had demanded a bribe from a service seeker in exchange for issuing the ward’s recommendation required to close a Permanent Account Number (PAN). The complaint also accused him of deliberately delaying and obstructing the service to pressure the applicant into paying the bribe.
A CIAA team apprehended Bhattarai while allegedly receiving the bribe at the ward office.
The anti-graft body said further investigation into the case is underway.
