KATHMANDU, July 4: President Ramchandra Paudel has stated that former Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala was a leader of both revolution and peace.
Addressing a program on Friday to mark the 102nd birth anniversary of the former Prime Minister, President Paudel said, "If I were to describe Girija Prasad Koirala in a phrase, he was a leader of revolution as well as a leader of peace."
President Paudel highlighted Koirala’s pivotal role in three major political events of recent Nepali history: leading the democratic movement, advancing the peace process, and establishing the republic. He noted that Koirala had the ability to change the course of politics and, in the later part of his life, rose from being a political leader to a statesman, serving as a lasting source of inspiration.
Let’s live in peace and embrace diversity
Describing Koirala’s unwavering confidence, President Paudel said, "He had the courage to take risks in decision-making. That’s why he continued to fight for democracy. He never tired of working and always inspired his colleagues to move forward. Even in adversity, the flame of democracy within him never extinguished."
Likewise, President Paudel emphasized that Nepal's goal of prosperity can only be achieved through peace, stability, reconciliation, cooperation, good governance, and efficient service delivery to the people, along with the proper utilization of the country's resources and means.
"We have a constitution created by the people themselves," he said, "Improving people’s living standards and achieving national prosperity is the ultimate aim set by our constitution and federal democratic republic. This goal can only be realized through good governance and the optimal use of our resources."
Despite philosophical differences over economic models, President Paudel said that during Koirala’s tenure, Nepal’s economy managed to withstand several global economic shocks by maintaining a centrist path between capitalist and communist ideologies.
