KATHMANDU, July 23: Nepali Congress (NC) on Thursday named party leader and former vice president Gopal Man Shrestha as its senior leader.
Party President Gagan Thapa announced the decision during a program marking the 44th B.P. Koirala Memorial Day at the National Assembly Hall. He said the appointment will be formally endorsed at the party’s Central Working Committee meeting scheduled for July 28–29.
No agreement with CPN (Maoist Center) yet: Gopal Man Shrestha
Thapa noted Shrestha’s long-standing contribution to the NC and expressed confidence that the committee would unanimously approve the decision.
Shrestha, who has been battling stomach cancer, is currently in critical condition and undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit (ICU) at a hospital in Jawalakhel, Lalitpur.
