KATHMANDU, April 9: CPN-UML Chair and former prime minister KP Sharma Oli has accused the government of keeping him in illegal detention for 13 days by filing what he called politically motivated criminal charges.
In a social media post on Thursday from his hospital bed, Oli claimed that he was released after authorities failed to find sufficient grounds and evidence to pursue the case against him.
“The government filed criminal charges against me out of prejudice and revenge and kept me under illegal detention for 13 days. Eventually, I was released after there was no basis or evidence to prosecute the case,” he wrote.

Oli also alleged that police used excessive force against supporters who had taken to the streets demanding his release, leaving several people injured.
“I wish a speedy recovery to all those injured during the harsh crackdown on people demanding my release,” he said, adding that the state should bear the medical expenses of the injured. If the government fails to do so, he said, the party will cover the treatment costs.
Oli further stated that he would remain in the hospital for a few more days due to his current health condition and continue receiving treatment.
