KATHMANDU, March 23, 2026: The Embassy of Pakistan in Kathmandu celebrated the country’s 86th National Day today with a Flag Hoisting Ceremony at its chancery. Ambassador Abrar H. Hashmi raised the Pakistani flag as messages from the nation’s President, Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister/Foreign Minister were read to mark the occasion, according to a press release issued by the Embassy.
President Asif Ali Zardari highlighted the enduring significance of unity and solidarity, saying, “We confronted the enemy’s aggression with courage and taught a lesson that will be remembered for a long time.” He urged the nation to strengthen democratic institutions, uphold the rule of law, empower women, promote political and economic stability, and combat terrorism and extremism.

Prime Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif called March 23 a landmark in South Asian history and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to global peace. He stressed that lasting regional stability hinges on a just resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir issue and expressed solidarity with the people of Palestine amid rising tensions in the Middle East, emphasizing the country’s focus on dialogue, mutual respect, and balanced diplomacy.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar paid tribute to the foresight and sacrifices of Pakistan’s forefathers in securing the nation’s independence. He reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering support for the people of Jammu and Kashmir, pledging continued political, moral, and diplomatic assistance, the Embassy said.
Ambassador Hashmi congratulated the Pakistani community and families in Nepal, praising their contributions and encouraging them to continue strengthening Pakistan-Nepal relations. He underscored the historical importance of March 23, 1940, as the foundation of Pakistan and paid homage to Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and the nation’s forefathers. Expressing solidarity with those affected by conflicts in the Middle East, he also announced that, in line with the Prime Minister’s instructions, this year’s traditional Pakistan National Day Reception would not be held.
