Govt orders full social security compliance by employers

The Ministry has instructed all the concerned establishments, institutions and stakeholders to proactively comply with the laws, asserting that action would be taken against those found denying facilities, including minimum wage in accordance with the law.

KATHMANDU, April 7: The Ministry of Labour, Employment and Social Security has urged all employment providers to fully comply with the provisions related to minimum wage and social security as outlined in the Labour Act, 2074 BS and other relevant laws. 



Issuing a statement issued on Monday, the Ministry has instructed all the concerned establishments, institutions and stakeholders to proactively comply with the laws, asserting that action would be taken against those found denying facilities, including minimum wage in accordance with the law.

According to Clause 18(3) of the Labour Act, 2074 BS, a clear legal provision is specified obligating employers to provide individuals engaged as trainees with facilities in a way that does not reduce social security benefits, such as minimum wage, sick leave, allowances, provident fund, and insurance. 


“The ministry has received complaints and grievances from health workers/nursing staff working as trainees in various hospitals and health institutions, teachers and staff of private and public schools, as well as individuals working in various other establishments, regarding not receiving the stated minimum wage and other benefits," the release stated. 


This issue has drawn the serious attention of the ministry, it is noted.
